How to make Eurail & Interrail reservations? Which trains are included? Where can I buy reservations? What do they costs? You’ll find the answer here.
What are Eurail & Interrail train reservations?
With your Interrail or Eurail pass you can hop on nearly every single train within Europe. However, some trains do require additional costs on top of your pass. This is called a seat reservation or supplement. Usually luxurious trains, international trains, High-Speed trains and Night-Trains require this additional ticket. The sole reason for having such a reservation or supplement is that you will have an assigned seat on the train, for the whole duration of your journey. Which is extremely convenient on long-time journeys, because who want’s to get awaken during the night by other travelers claiming their seat or bed? Now I can understand that additional costs scare you away.. but don’t be afraid! With your pass you only have to pay a minor fee for claiming your spot on these trains. What are my best options?
In general you can always travel to your destination without having to purchase seat reservations or supplements, but then you’re bound to travel with slower and usually less comfortable trains. Each train operator within Europe decides whether it enforces these rules. There are various countries in Europe in which virtually all trains are free of charge, but there are also countries in Europe where nearly all trains require an additional ticket. With the Rail Planner App you can plan your own itinerary the way you want it. For example, you can plan journeys by disabeling trains that require an additional reservation. Maybe you want to break up your itinerary, with one train that requires an additional reservation. Have a look at the Interrail App page to see how you can do that.
