What does it mean?

You may or may not have heard of it. The 7 PM rule. This extremely convenient touch of Interrail magic makes traveling over-night so much more appealing. However, this rule does no longer exists and an even better alternative is in place! If you have bought, or going to buy, an Interrail pass that is valid for a certain amount of non-consecutive days you probably want to use those travel days to their fullest. However, if you want to travel a great distance you are mostly bound to travel on multiple days, thereby quickly reducing your travel days. Now if you want to be precious with your travel days, be sure to understand the concept of ‘Interrail Travel Days’ to it’s fullest – as it is of tremendous value!

How to use it?

The definition of an ‘Interrail Travel Day’ is that you can take as many trains as you like, from 00:00 to 23:59 (12:01 AM to 11:59 PM). But, now comes the magic! If you stay on a train that continues past 23:59, you are allowed to consider it part of the same travel day. Transfers to other trains after midnight are not allowed! So, if you plan accordingly you can travel immense distances. For example Amsterdam-Bucharest, Vienna-Palermo, Munchen-Edinburgh, Paris-Zagreb. This is ofcourse very valuable if you have a limited amount of travel days on your Interrail pass. In short, the departure day of a train is what matters!
